How to beat PEKKA Bridge Spam in Clash Royale
DANGER CARDS: P.E.K.K.A, Battle Ram (Evolution), Royal Ghost (Evolution), Magic Archer, Bandit
PEKKA Bridge Spam has been a top-five ladder deck since evolution Battle Ram and evolution Royal Ghost entered the meta. The deck blends a defensive tank-killer (PEKKA) with fast bridge spam that punishes any defender placed slowly. When it lines up, you lose the tower in twenty seconds; when you defend it cleanly, the PEKKA player runs out of cards and watches you counter-push. The matchup hinges on a single recurring decision: when to commit to defense and when to bait the spam out first.
1. What the deck is doing
PEKKA Bridge Spam wants to bait one of your big defenders out with a small bridge-spam play, then drop PEKKA behind it as the second wave. PEKKA tanks while Bandit dashes onto your tower and Battle Ram (Evolution) charges over the bridge. Magic Archer chips from the back.
Their key reads are: did you spend your tank-killer (Inferno Tower, Inferno Dragon, Mini Pekka) on the Bandit or the Battle Ram? If yes, PEKKA walks free across the bridge and one-shots the tower. If you held the tank-killer, they have to commit PEKKA at the back and lose tempo.
Their defense is fast and trade-positive: Skeletons and Bandit to defend buildings, PEKKA on defense to kill your win condition, Magic Archer to clean up. Their weakness is when they've committed PEKKA on defense — they can't follow up an offense for thirty seconds.
2. Counter cards to slot into your deck
- Inferno Tower or Inferno Dragon. The cleanest answer to PEKKA. Inferno Tower placed in the centre melts PEKKA before it reaches the tower; Inferno Dragon does the same but also handles Lavahound and Balloon in other matchups, so it's a more flexible slot.
- A reset card — Electro Wizard, Electro Spirit, Zap. They prevent the PEKKA from one-shotting your Inferno and they neutralise the Battle Ram charge. Without a reset, your Inferno gets zapped off and the PEKKA walks through.
- A swarm or single-target defender — Royal Recruits, Goblin Cage, Cannoneer. These outvalue the bridge-spam package (Bandit and Battle Ram die to a swarm or a Cannoneer with one shot). Royal Recruits specifically out-trade Bandit + Battle Ram for cheaper.
3. Defensive placements
- Inferno Tower at the four-three. Centre lane, three tiles back from the bridge. Locks PEKKA at the bridge, finishes it before it reaches the tower. Place it any later and the PEKKA gets one or two tower swings on the way down.
- Skeletons or Ice Spirit to reset Battle Ram. Drop on top of the Ram as it crosses. The charge resets and you avoid the two-tap. The Skeletons survive the impact long enough to chip the Ram down.
- Don't let Bandit dash for free. Bandit's dash avoids ranged damage. Drop Skeletons or a swarm in front of her so she dashes onto the swarm instead of the tower. A Bandit that dashes onto a swarm dies before her second hit.
- Defend the PEKKA with one card if possible. Inferno alone if you have a reset. Inferno + Skeletons if they Lightning-bait. Don't spend your full hand on one PEKKA — they want you to, so the bridge spam after it lands is undefendable.
4. When to push
The two windows that matter:
After they spend PEKKA on defense. Eight elixir gone, no tank-killer in hand for thirty seconds. Send your tank push (Golem, Lavahound, Giant) right now. The PEKKA player has Magic Archer and Bandit to defend; neither can solo a tank.
After you Inferno their PEKKA. Your Inferno Tower was the defensive answer — it just used its life defending. Their PEKKA is dead but they spent eight elixir; you spent five on Inferno. Three elixir up. Push the opposite lane with whatever cycled.
Do not push into an idle PEKKA player who hasn't shown PEKKA yet. They are waiting for you to commit your win condition so they can drop PEKKA defensively for value.
5. Recommended counter decks
- Hog 2.6. Cannon and Skeletons handle Bandit and Battle Ram for cheap. The Hog 2.6 player can ignore PEKKA on defense by sending Hog to the opposite lane every cycle. PEKKA can't catch a Hog.
- Royal Hogs split. Hard-counters PEKKA because PEKKA can only defend one lane. Royal Hogs taking chip damage while PEKKA defends the other side is positive elixir.
- X-Bow Tesla. X-Bow's range outpaces PEKKA's walk speed; the PEKKA player has to commit to offense to threaten the X-Bow. Tesla + Skeletons stops the bridge spam cheaply.
6. Common mistakes
Spending your tank-killer on Bandit. Bandit is bait. Defend her with a swarm, save the Inferno for PEKKA.
Putting your win condition in front of PEKKA. PEKKA one-shots most win conditions. Always commit to the opposite lane when you push.
Letting Battle Ram charge. Reset the charge with Skeletons, Ice Spirit, or Electro Spirit. A landed Battle Ram is two tower taps; a reset Battle Ram is one or zero.
Forgetting the Magic Archer pierce. Magic Archer's arrow goes through troops. If you stack defenders in a line, one arrow chips your tower. Spread defenders or kill the Magic Archer first with a Fireball.
7. The match within the match
PEKKA Bridge Spam rewards card-counting more than most decks. Their hand of four matters because the order they show their cards tells you the next push: if PEKKA is in cycle but they're cycling Bandit at the bridge, PEKKA is coming on the next defensive opportunity. If they Magic Archer behind the tower early, they're loading up for a full push next cycle.
Once you can predict the PEKKA's arrival, the matchup feels much less punishing. The hard part isn't defending the deck — it's defending the deck calmly without burning elixir on the bait plays.
